Make your own pectin from crabapples
easy
Crabapples are very high in pectin, especially the cores and seeds.
Simmer two pounds of washed whole crabapples with three cups of water for about 30 minutes. Mash and strain the contents through a colander lined with cheesecloth.
Use the strained liquid like you would use liquid pectin in a recipe to set any kind of fruit jelly or jam.
Compost the leftover mash.
