Have a gardening question? Ask Gardenline!
Gardenline is open from May 1 to September 30.
Since 1973, Gardenline has been answering your garden and landscape questions. What began as a simple phone service has changed dramatically over the years as we’ve adopted emerging technology and responded to current needs. Once again, it’s time for renewal. We’ve grown here at Gardening at USask and demand for Gardenline has grown too. Between May and September of 2023, we answered 1,714 questions and created hundreds of posts on social media, with a combined reach of over 10 million. Our website reaches hundreds of thousands more people annually.
To ensure we can continue providing high-quality, personalized support to our growing community, we’re updating how we respond to Gardenline questions. We will continue to accept all questions through our website forms. This is the easiest and quickest way to reach Gardenline. You can also reach us by email at gardenline@usask.ca, by phone at (306) 966‑5865, or through our Facebook and Instagram channels. Questions are answered in the order received, and we typically respond within two business days.
Every question you send to Gardenline must include a significant amount of information.
Here's how we use your information:
- Your personal information (name, contact details, location) is never shared.
- Location information is important for accurate plant or insect identification, plant diagnosis, plant recommendations, and other gardening support.
- We use aggregated location data only for program planning and funding. This data is never linked to individuals.
Once we have your information about your problem, we may contact you for photos.
Photos are extremely helpful. If we need photos, we will contact you by email with instructions about which photos we need and how to send them. Tips for submitting good photos:
- Photos should be in focus and high resolution.
- For small subjects such as insects, it helps to include an object in the photo such as a ruler, coin, or pen to give an indication of scale.
- Please send a maximum of five photos at a maximum size of 5 MB each.
