Three flowered avens aka prairie smoke
Geum triflorum
An easy and low maintenance perennial. Three flowered avens has beautiful, feathery leaves that are low to the ground and often turn red in the fall. The reddish purple flowers are held in groups of three, which give way to wispy seed heads that are quite decorative and the source of the other common name. This is a plant that establishes quickly and needs little care once mature.
